The government of Maharashtra and Central government have decided to sign and MoA (also known as the Memorandum of Agreement) aiming to provide financial assistance to Sainik school located in Satara district (website:sainiksatara.org).
Sainik school was established in the year 1961. This was the first Sainik school that was established, out of the 25 Sainik schools that were a part of the plan. The main aim behind establishing these schools was to prepare boys for entering the armed forces as officers. The Sainik school society is governed by the ministry of Defence.
On 15th January 2017, Memorandum of Agreement was signed. The MoA was signed by the representatives of the government of Maharashtra and the ministry of Defence.
This step will help the administration of the school in a lot of ways. By signing the agreement, all the major expenses like that of meal allowance of students, scholarship, building maintenance, training grants, staff pension and subsidy, each of these will be taken care by the government.
The school will get Rs. 5 crore from the government of Maharashtra. The money will be given to the government annually. If the agreement works out in favour of both the parties, then it is likely that the fees might be reduced.
Before this agreement was signed, students had to pay a large amount of fee to the school. And, all those kids who belong to Economically Weaker Sections of the society were not able to afford the fees of this school.
As many as 1500 students have joined the Army, Air Force and Navy and rest of the students are part of the government sector.
A lot of parents and alumni of the school are happy with this decision. They have also thanked Chief Minister of State Devendra Fadnavis, Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Education Minister Vinod Tawde, and Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre.
